Chorley’s Nick Dougherty is almost out of the running for this week’s KLM Open in Holland after a disappointing three-over-par opening round.
The 26-year-old Shaw Hill professional was desperate for a good finish in Zandvoort with just a handful of tournaments left before next month’s Ryder Cup.
Starting at the 10th hole, he began with a double-bogey.
He recovered with birdies at 12, 14 and later at the third, but consecutive bogeys at four and five, plus a double-bogey on his final hole has left Dougherty facing an uphill task.
