Coventry City boss Mark Robins has admitted he could be forced to 'play the youngsters' due to injuries and fatigue in his squad.

Blackburn Rovers host the Sky Blues on Saturday needing at least a point to guarantee their place in the Championship for next season. A win could mathematically secure safety depending on results elsewhere.

Whilst Rovers have enjoyed a free week, Coventry come to Ewood Park battered and bruised. Their season was effectively ended on Wednesday night after a 3-2 defeat to Hull City, making their chances of qualifying for the play-offs slim.

The squad has been tested to its limit after 120 minutes in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United last weekend too. Physically and emotionally, it's been a draining week for the club.

It's left Robins admitting the squad is in far from good health, with three more league games to fit in before the season ends. The Sky Blues boss admitted he may have to use his younger players to manage the squad.

“Fabio (Tavares) has got to go for a surgical opinion on his ankle. He’s got ligament damage and we have got to see whether he needs surgery or not. I think that’s getting done tomorrow (Thurs).

“He got slammed between two legs and it’s just damaged his ligaments. I think there were two players going for the ball at the same time and he’s just got caught between their legs and caused that damage, but it’s an impact.

“Victor (Torp) has torn a stomach muscle and was in too much pain to be involved (against Hull). I think it’s where there’s an attachment to his hip.

“Binksy had a tight Achilles at half-time and then just felt it in the game and had to go off. I don’t know how bad that is yet. Joel Latibeaudiere picked up a calf problem a while back and has been managing it, and today it has caught up with him a little bit.”

“I don’t know, there’s not long left but potentially yes. Certainly Fabio, potentially Joel and Binksy, I am not sure yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed the rest of the season as well. I am not sure where he is quite at.

“We have another game coming up and it’s Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday and it’s just ridiculous really. If we are going to have to play youngsters as well, then that’s what we are going to have to do.”
