Keen fishing fans are being invited to take part in a competition to see who can make the biggest catch.

People will be casting their rods into a picturesque waterway in a special event organised by the Mayor, Councillor Terry Brown.

“Fishing is a great way to relax and I’m sure we’ll get some big catches on the day,” said Coun Brown.

“Everyone’s welcome to take part and promises to be a fun day.”

People need to bring their own fishing equipment and bait – although no cereal bait is allowed because it’s afresh water reservoir.

The competition, in association with Withnell Anglers, will take place at Rakes Brook, in Abbey Village, on Sunday, September 7.

The draw will be made at 8am and the fishing will take place from 9am.

Tickets are priced £15 and available from Coppull Anglers, Spendmore Lane, and Millington’s Tackle, in Steeley Lane.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second, third and fourth places.

For more information contact the Mayor’s Secretary on 01257 515113.
